Lakes in Hanoi, There are Many Spectacular Lakes Here
Hanoi is the capital city of Vietnam. The city of Hanoi has been constructed from the plain and has many rivers that go across it. There are numerous beautiful, picturesque lakes in Hanoi. Thus Hanoi is on occasions referred to as the 'city of lakes'. The most prominent and at the same time most renowned of the Hanoian lakes are the Hoan Keim Lake, Bay Mau Lake, Halais Lake also known as the Ho Tien Quang Lake and the West Lake. Out of these lakes the West Lake is the largest and is the most popular with tourists. Numerous temples dot along the region of the lake. One can even hire some boats to go across the lake. A floating restaurant is also present at the West Lake.
The West Lake spans an area of over 100 hectares. There are numerous legends regarding how the lake was formed. Historical records and accounts also speak of this massive lake as far back as the 11th century AD and was known as Dam Dam which means Frost Lake. At present there are many restaurants and other development around the area of the West Lake that cater to the many people who come to visit this lake.
The Ho Thein Quang Lake covers an area of five hectares. The lake had a village during its ancient times. There are also three pagodas residing along the west side of the lake.
